PRESS: Govt may force firms to share clients’ non-anonymized data
MOSCOW, Jul 12 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Digital Development Ministry has drafted a new variant of a bill regulating the data turnover that says that businesses will be obliged to hand over to the government the people’s personal information that will be anonymized by an authorized entity, business daily Kommersant reported on Tuesday.
The document stipulates a free transfer to the government by a company of data, including personal information of clients without any prior anonymization. No consent of a person is required, the daily said.
Businesses will hand over data to a state information system of an authorized entity that will anonymize them and form data sets. The government will set the data contents and purposes of their use.
The ministry suggests providing the state and Russian developers with free access to anonymized information.
A source on the data market told the daily that the new version of a bill simply obliges businesses to share personal information of their clients with the government but does not regulate the anonymized data market.
